Expand and build, Aquarius. This month, it’s time to seek new horizons, while also locking in a solid structure for your life. You’re a free-spirited flower child at heart, but some of that independent attitude isn’t really serving you anymore. Can you find freedom while still following the rules—or even better, by discovering your own inner authority? In October, you’ll need to explore how structure can actually set you free.
It’s a funny thing: although you’re a rebel who won’t let anyone tell you what to do, there’s a part of you that secretly wants to be guided. You get stuck in a false belief that you’ll be “trapped” by consistency or routine. This keeps you from recognizing how routine your life really is in some ways. On October 5, passionate Mars enters your tenth house of career and structure. Mars will be here until November 26, amping up your ambition and making you crave a new level of efficiency and stability. It’s a great time to streamline your priorities, and to focus on those that truly nourish your soul.
Here’s an exercise you might try: Get out a sheet of paper and write down all the things you do on a regular basis—without judgment. It can include items as mundane as brushing your teeth, bickering with your sister or checking email every hour. Your list should also have fun stuff like updating your Facebook profile or having drinks with friends. Jot down approximately how much time you spend doing each thing. When you’ve got a complete list, go through and circle all the items that truly bring you joy and pleasure. Those are the keepers.
Now, take another sheet of paper and write down all the things you deeply long to do…but haven’t found time for or gotten around to doing. For example: getting a scuba license, learning Spanish, writing a novel, spending more quality time with your pets. Aquarius, these are the sacrifices you’re making by refusing to follow a routine. With the help of Mars, you can learn to say “no” to the time-suckers so you can say “yes” to what you desire! This includes clients, jobs or professional opportunities that are no longer a match for you.
Mars is the god of war in mythology, so if you need to slay a few dragons, let your competitive nature take the wheel and play to win. If you’re ready to take your career to new heights, Mars will help. From October 1-18, Mars and love-planet Venus will both be in Scorpio, helping you attract a high-profile opportunity. Get out, socialize and network to increase the odds—you’ll be downright magnetic. Not only could you meet someone special through your work, but friends and lovers could lead you to your next big opportunity. You might even meet someone a little older or more established than your usual “type.” Don’t turn up your nose at a hottie in a suit and tie.
Indeed, money is on your mind now. From October 9 until December 2, your ruling planet Uranus will be opposing Saturn in the financial parts of your chart. Uranus rules revolution and sudden change, and it’s in your second house of daily income. Aquarius, you’ll need to find inventive ways to pay the bills, or manage a work life that feels scattered in many directions. At the same time, Saturn is in your eighth house, which rules large chunks of money. You may have debt or a big expense—something you need to save up for—pulling at you from the other direction. It will be a challenge to manage the stress.
As you revolutionize the way you make your daily flow, you’ll also need to take a serious, even conservative, approach to debt, investment and long-term finances. If you strike the right balance, you could land a large account that pays you a huge single sum. Or, you might take advantage of the turbulent real estate market to find your dream home. Know that whatever it is, you’ll be balancing between the frenetic, kinetic energy of Uranus and the traditional “old school” vibe of Saturn. Think of a strict father and a rebellious teen trying to find common ground. That metaphor colors your financial life during this cycle. But if anyone’s up for a creative challenge, it’s you! At least you won’t be bored.
If you feel like your skills are rusty, return to an old course of study in the first half of October. Mercury, planet of communication, is retrograde (backward) in your ninth house of travel and study. You might take a trip to see an old friend, visit your alma mater, or pore through old books and notes. Look to your past for inspiration. If you’ve lost touch with a part of yourself—which is entirely possible during this turbulent 2008—plug into old sources of inspiration.
It’s time to find your voice and let it be heard ‘round the world, Aquarius. At the Aries full moon on October 14, you’ll barely be able to suppress the urge any longer. Speak up, say what you mean, and be heard. Aquarius, you can lapse into people-pleasing, and that’s how you get hooked into doing all these things you loathe. Stop trying to win people over with false hope and a million-dollar grin. Even if these strategies have gotten you places, you may have left a lot of people hanging with expectations you can’t fulfill. Let Obama and McCain be the politicians du jour now, and stop making promises you can’t keep. Set yourself free!
