Monthly
Horoscope:
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
MAY 2008
Ready for a fresh start? It’s your month! With the Sun in Taurus until May 21, fling open your arms and embrace the new. Over the last few weeks, you probably noticed your energy levels rising along with the Spring temperatures. By the second week of May, you could feel even more of a power surge.
Why? For starters, on May 5, a New Moon falls in Taurus. Since this only happens once a year, it’s like your personal New Year. Resolution time! Ask yourself: where do I want to be in six months? Don’t be afraid to dream big. Set some goals and map out actions that will help you reach this point. Practical Taurus, you succeed by taking measured steps and by being consistent. For you, it’s better to do one or two things very well than to do ten things half-assed. Cut back on your commitments and prioritize if need be. Make a dedicated effort to set up habits, plans and situations that will support your goals throughout the summer.
Your ruling planet Venus is also in Taurus, and will join forces with this New Moon. Venus is the planet of love and beauty, so this month could kick off a brand new chapter of your love life. That’s especially good news, since serious Saturn has been in your fifth house of romance since September 2007. With Saturn’s wise guidance, many Taureans have been evaluating what you truly want from a mate. Your approach to love is more serious than ever. Under Saturn’s spell, which lasts from September 2007 until October 2009, you could attract a marriage proposal or discover what true love really means.
Saturn has been retrograde (backward) for the last few months, which for many Tauruses, has brought romance to a grinding halt. Like Austin Powers, you may wonder if you lost your mojo. A starry-eyed courtship that was off to the races might have been reigned in or sidelined. The culprit: an attack of old fears and insecurities, courtesy of Saturn retrograde. Did you rush yourself, or try to convince yourself that you were ready for a bigger commitment than you are? Remember, Taurus, slow and steady is always your best M.O.
The fifth house also rules pregnancy, so you might have been surprised by an unplanned bun in the oven, or even questioned whether you want children at all. If you tried to get pregnant, conception could have been challenging. You can resume your efforts now, or wait until after July 10, when active Mars will make baby-making a breeze. Since Saturn rules experts, you might consider visiting a renowned fertility specialist, too.
We’re glad to report that on May 3, Saturn goes back to “direct” (full-power) mode, which will set these areas of your life back on a steadier course. This builds up to a climactic Full Moon on May 19, which falls in your house of marriage and committed partnerships. This is the second moon in a row that falls here (the last was April 19)—a rare “blue moon” that only happens every 2-1/2 years. If you didn’t get a proposal or seal the deal in April, you could now. This Full Moon will form a tense “T-square” with the Sun and Neptune. You may feel torn between your needs, your career, and those of the relationship. Take a moment to reflect and make sure you can juggle these conflicting demands.
Of course, this Full Moon could also bring you a non-romantic commitment. A long-awaited contract or deal could finally close, or a business partnership could take center stage. You might be offered the chance to join forces on an exciting new venture.
Either way, don’t be too quick to sign on the dotted line. On May 10, Jupiter, the planet of expansion, goes retrograde (backward) until early September. Jupiter is in your ninth house of travel, study and entrepreneurship for all of 2008—making you unusually free-spirited, Taurus! While you tend to prefer set working hours and a steady wage, Jupiter has something a lot less structured in mind for you this year. Midnight oil has burned in your wake, and freelance gigs could have been more frequent than ever. You may have worked via satellite office, traveled for your job, or earned cash “under the table” instead of a paycheck. Well…there’s more of that in store.
During the retrograde, it’s important to shore up your faith regularly, and guard against a tendency toward skepticism. Your practical Taurus nature may whisper in your ear, “Give up your silly dreams and get real.” Don’t listen! Inspire yourself by attending lectures, reading books, and otherwise surrounding yourself with people and ideas that keep you on track. You might want to book an international trip (especially to somewhere you’ve been before), resume study on an old subject, finish a degree, or take a half-completed business idea off the back burner. The ninth house also rules publishing, so if you’re a writer, dust off that manuscript and prepare it for a Fall submission.
As if Jupiter wasn’t enough of a wild card, on May 5, action-planet Mars enters Leo, ruler of your home and family sector. Like it or not, you could be moving, renovating or even couch surfing during this Mars cycle, which lasts until July 10. If you’re staying put, the four walls could feel like they’re closing in on you. Look into space-saving solutions to make your home feel less cramped—and pick up a power drill yourself if you must. A female relative, possibly your mom, could demand your attention this month, too. Even if your patience is stretched thin, try not to fly off the handle at this person. Cleaning up the mess will be more work than taking a deep breath—a new practice it wouldn’t hurt to try, Taurus.
