Horoscope:
Sagittarius (November 23-December 21)
MAY 2008
Ready to get fit? After an indulgent April, the planets cruise into your sixth house of health and organization, helping you get back in shape. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion. You hate to say “no” to anything, which means you easily overload. As our grandfather used to say, “Your eyes are bigger than your stomach.” That can all add up to excess—too many second helpings, too many work assignments, and general overload!
If you’ve tipped the scales too far, it’s time to streamline. This year especially, Sagittarius, less is more. On May 5, a New Moon falls in your sixth house, giving you the urge to purge. You’ll want to get back in fighting shape for summer. It’s an excellent time to restock your fridge with healthy groceries, to clean and eliminate clutter, and to start a new fitness practice. If you’ve been doing the same old routine, branch out and try new classes at the gym. Or, skip the gym and hop on your bike—Sagittarius thrives outdoors in the wide world, so why not enjoy the beautiful May weather while getting in shape?
There’s even more reason to get your act together, Sag. On May 5, Saturn rockets into full-power (direct) mode in your tenth house of career and public image. All eyes will be on you. You could earn a leadership role, an executive title, even a chance to appear on camera. Saturn has been retrograde (backward) since December, piling on the work assignments. No rest for you! While you may have earned exciting new responsibilities at work, chances are they were demanding, perhaps requiring skills that you had to learn on the job.
Pennies won’t necessarily pour down from heaven, but the impact of Saturn here will be much more profound. Saturn is less like winning the lottery, and more like investing in a blue-chip stock that delivers returns for a lifetime. The growth will be slow and consistent over time, rather than like a jackpot that overwhelms you. This gives you the advantage of learning how to handle your growing fame and earnings in a responsible new way.
Saturn will travel through your career sector until October 2009, so you’ve got plenty of time to build a slow and steady success story for yourself. Saturn rules structure and discipline, and its direct turn will help you create a saner schedule now, too. Sagittarius, you love to do everything all by yourself, but if you want to rise through the ranks, it’s time to learn how to delegate. The tenth house also rules managers—a role you’re usually reluctant to take on. During Saturn’s tour, you could discover that you actually make an excellent manager and team leader. This discovery could find you doing less while earning more. Don’t be afraid to outsource or hand off certain phases of a project. If you haven’t read it yet, check out The Four Hour Workweek, a recent bestseller on this very topic.
It’s not a bad idea to keep your mind on your money now, anyway. On May 10, your ruling planet Jupiter goes retrograde (backward) until early September. While money should still roll in, the retrograde period isn’t the time to play big spender. This summer is an important time to pay off old debts and keep expenses to a minimum. 2007 was filled with changes, some of which could have been costly. Review your budget and see how much you really need to afford your desired lifestyle. Write it down. Account for every possible cost. Then, look how much you actually make. If there’s a gap between those numbers, use the summer to either trim your cost of living or to devise creative new income channels.
All work and no play makes Sag a dull Archer, so let’s talk about your love life. As with everything else, it’s time to make room for the new. Are you still carrying a torch for a long-gone ex? Holding on to past hurts and resentments? Enough’s enough, Sag. The Full Moon on May 19 will help you find closure on for once and for all. You’re far more resilient than you realize. Your biggest challenge is having the faith that there is indeed a perfect match for your multi-faceted personality—a playmate and soulmate in one.
Around this Full Moon, you might also hear from an on-again/off-again lover who notoriously gives you mixed signals. Don’t expect this person to go quietly into the night. S/he might charge in with big promises and propositions, luring you back. Is it all smoke and mirrors? Actions will speak louder than words. Mercury, planet of communications, goes retrograde in your relationship sector on May 26 until June 20. If you feel that you must give it one last chance, this is your window. Sagittarius, you’re the zodiac’s optimist, but hope can be a fatal drug for you. Take off the rose-colored glasses and see this person for whom s/he is.
Mercury will remain in your relationship sector until July 11, so you have the summer to get your relationship back on track. A marriage proposal is possible. Above all else, bring fun and open communication back into your love life. Connecting through conversation is the way to your heart, Sag. You need a mate who’s always willing to talk things out. Even if you have to lead the way, use your visionary powers to guide your personal life into healthy territory now.
