Monthly Horoscope:

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

MAY 2008

Yawn! May is your annual “sleepy month,” Gemini, so please take it easy. The Sun is in Taurus, the sign right before yours. That means it’s finishing its long journey back to Gemini. In keeping with the planets, you should also focus on wrapping up any journeys, projects or lingering issues before your astrological year starts anew.

2008 has not been a comfortable year for your sign—far from it. With two key planets, Saturn and Jupiter, in water-ruled houses of your chart, your normally cool-headed sign is a big old ball of emotion. Gemini, you tend to rely on logic, facts and quick answers to get by. Now, those strategies are bankrupt. You’re being forced to dig deeper, to be vulnerable and intimate, to discover emotional layers you could never access before. You’re way out of your comfort zone, and it ain’t fun.

Imagine that you’re doing a yearlong spiritual “cleanse.” As part of your detox, you’re going to churn up some old baggage and issues that freak you out. Summon the courage to sit with the feelings, rather than shutting down. You’ll develop a wonderful new dimension of yourself. By Christmas, a kinder, gentler Gemini will emerge, like a beautiful butterfly.

Please, Gemini, don’t be too proud to ask for help, either. On May 5, a New Moon falls in your twelfth house of healing. A new therapist or guide could enter the picture, possibly an older woman. You might consider taking a short retreat, journaling or starting a meditation practice. A bike ride or walk near water can clear your mind, too.

Because this Moon joins up with romance-planet Venus, we see a romantic partner figuring in. This may be somebody with whom you still have lingering ties, a person who knows just how to push your buttons. May is an important time to “nail the coffin shut,” as our friend Amanda puts it. You might even attract a new suitor who stirs up the same old drama. Now’s your chance to pause and remind yourself: Let’s not even go there. It could take everything to walk away from feelings that have such a strong pull. Recognize that they come from a very old place, and will only keep you mired in pain. Don’t feed the tiger, as we like to say!

A longstanding family feud could also be resolved this month. Saturn, the planet of maturity, has been in your fourth house of home and family since September. This house rules motherhood, so if your relationship with mom has been on the rocks, after May 3, pick up the phone and make amends. Many Geminis became new moms or got pregnant in the last six months (including your signmates Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie). The demands of being mommy, or mommy-to-be, may be adding more strain than you admit. Other Geminis moved or took on a large home renovation project that could have taxed your emotional resources. Don’t wait until you’re close to a breakdown to ask for support, Gemini.

Fortunately, speaking your mind won’t be hard, since communications planet Mercury, your ruler, will be in Gemini all month. On the 26th, Mercury goes retrograde, so you’ll be more successful vocalizing your needs earlier in the month.

Got debts? Building up a nest egg? On May 10, Jupiter goes retrograde in the part of your chart that rules large chunks of money. You may need to pay off a large bill—and the next few months are ideal for doing so. On a positive note, you could receive a windfall from the IRS, a surprise inheritance, or some other money you’re owed. Either way, don’t spend it all in one place. Jupiter retrograde might stem the tide of your earnings until September, so be frugal for the summer. On the same day, stressful Mars finally leaves your income sector. If money has flown out of your hands as quickly as you’ve made it, you’ll find it easier to stick to a budget now.

While you’re at it, you might want to start counting reps at the gym, or writing down what you eat. On May 19, a Full Moon lights up your health and fitness sector. Take an honest look at your well-being, Gemini. You can’t run on fumes anymore. You’ll be tempted to avoid getting the facts, but buck up. If you step on the scale or go for a check-up, you’ll probably find that things aren’t as “bad” as you thought. Consider the data a starting point, then set your goals from there.

While you’re at it, get organized, too. Use the Full Moon as an energy boost to haul unwanted stuff to Goodwill and clear away clutter. Hire a cleaning service, or turn up the music and do a thorough Spring cleaning. You’ll be so motivated once you have a clean canvas again.
