Monthly Horoscope:

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

MAY 2008

May begins with a power surge, as your ruling planet Saturn wakes up from a long winter’s nap. Since December, Saturn has been retrograde (backward) in your ninth house of travel, higher education and entrepreneurship. A school project or business venture may have sent you back to the drawing board to tighten up your work or do additional research. Travel plans could have been postponed under this cycle as well.

On May 3, Saturn goes into direct (forward) motion. Like a hot air balloon, your ropes will be snipped. Prepare for liftoff! Of course, that’s not without a sandbag or two tempering your ascent. Saturn is the planet of slow, steady growth. You’ll still need to take those measured steps and follow a solid plan. Fortunately, Capricorn, this is how you already prefer to operate.

The ninth house also rules the higher mind, which includes your willingness to believe in the unseen. Capricorn, you have a skeptical side. You’re an earth sign, which means that you want tangible, material proof before you believe anything’s legit. O’ ye of little faith, it’s time for a new approach. During Saturn’s stay in your ninth house, you could explore a whole new belief system. Books like The Law of Attraction and The Secret have become popular over the last year. Even if you’ve already read them, their ideas could be worth applying to your own life. Here’s the gist: whatever you can imagine, you can manifest. We’re not talking about magical thinking here (you’re far too practical to fall for that). But dare to dream a little, Capricorn. Picture yourself in the lifestyle of your dreams, no matter how “impractical” that may seem.

Of course, that lifestyle may have already found you. In 2008, Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion, is in Capricorn. This is its first visit to your sign in over a decade, and it signifies the beginning of a brand new twelve-year cycle. Chances are, your life looks nothing like it did a year ago. You may have moved, switched careers, started a business or fallen deeply in love. Jupiter has given you the courage and optimism to start anew. While last year felt like an uphill climb for many Caps, this year doors seem to fly open in your wake.

On May 10, Jupiter will go retrograde (backward) until September. All this fast-paced action will slow down a bit, probably a welcome relief. Sometimes, rapid change can be downright overwhelming—especially for you. Sounds like a cliché, but this summer is an important time to “look at yourself.” Assess the image you’re projecting, whether it’s through your clothes, attitude or your marketing materials (everything from your online dating profile to a personal website). Try short-term classes or even work with a professional coach to polish the edges.

If you haven’t found love yet this year (and many Caps have!), the New Moon on May 5 falls in your fifth house of romance. By all means, get out and about in the days surrounding. This Moon links up with loveplanet Venus, so you have a double shot of fortune here. If you’re trying to get pregnant, the fifth house also rules fertility, so get busy with the babymaking! A creative project also gets a boost of energy, and you could find yourself flooded with inspiration. Pull out the art supplies, head to the studio, or just go out dancing. It’s time to bring fun and lightness back into your life. Capricorn, you’re a born worker bee, but it’s time to approach pleasure as an essential element of life, rather than an extracurricular activity you’ll get around to “someday.”

On May 19, a Full Moon falls in your eleventh house of groups and friends. You could have an epiphany about your inner circle. Perhaps you’ve outgrown a toxic friendship and it’s time to part ways. This Moon also brings an opportunity to bring a burgeoning friendship to a whole new level. Open up and let yourself be known, Capricorn. If you work for a non-profit or in technology, these areas are lit up by the Full Moon, so mark this date in bold. It’s a perfect day to launch a website or even to host a party where you bring people of diverse backgrounds and experiences together to network and mingle.

If you do throw a party or plan a big group dinner, make sure you don’t overspend. You don’t need to blow your whole budget trying to look like the consummate host. Trying to “buy” your friends may help you avoid the discomfort of letting down your guard—but it doesn’t do much for your faith in mankind. Remember: social awkwardness is common among Capricorns, but true friends give you the time and space to warm up at your own pace.
