Monthly Horoscope:

Leo (July 23-August 22)

March 2009

It’s feeling a little quiet in here, Leo. March begins with the Sun in your intimate eighth house, a very internal and emotional time. There’s a lot going on beneath the surface—with you and everything around you. It’s time to pause from your bustling life and pay attention to your inner life. Every sign has to do a month of internal housecleaning, and your time has arrived.

The eighth house is one of extremes, and you may experience a few highs and lows until the 20th. Not that there haven’t been a few this year already. Your deepest relationships have been evolving since January, when expansive Jupiter entered your partnership sector for the year. Breakups, makeups and everything in between have come your way. Then, eclipses on January 26th and February 9th touched this part of your chart again, jolting you awake.

Leo, it seems the stars want you to team up, but with the right players. This month, that may mean cutting ties with those whose values and priorities don’t match yours. (That can be either in the business or personal sense.) Although parting ways can be hard, it will make room for new alliances that truly suit you. The less time you devote to superficial connections, the deeper you’ll be able to go with a small-but-trusted circle.

Whatever you do, avoid drama. On March 6th love-planet Venus goes retrograde (backward) until mid-April. Venus is in your ninth house, which rules the faith and the higher mind. Keeping perspective will be a challenge, but push yourself to do it. Don’t get all caught up in some “Woe is me” saga, especially if you’re single.

Retrogrades also bring back people from our past. An old flame who lives far away could figure prominently during this six-week cycle. You might even want to connect with an ex, if only to gain closure. If there’s a chapter of your past preventing you from moving forward, use the retrograde to clear the air. You could even sift through old letters and jounral entries to see how far you’ve come, or to give yourself a little perspective.

Financially, you could see a windfall come your way, or you may need to shell out a chunk of cash yourself. Joint property is highlighted by the eighth house, along with real estate, legal agreements, debt and loans. It’s certainly a good time to take stock of your finances, and even to move. You might also want to explore a means of earning passive or residual income, or to increase your nest egg with investments.

On March 11, the Virgo full moon lights up your house of daily income and self-esteem. Full moons bring matters to fruition. Are you ready for a new job or a promotion? Wrapping up a phase of a project? The full moon could deliver. Think back to what you started in September, at the Virgo new moon. This comes full circle now. You could also feel a surge of confidence, one rooted not in ego but in real self-worth.

Leo, your sign is often accused of being vain, but the truth is, you’re also unrealistically hard on yourself. Of course, putting yourself down in an exaggerated fashion can be just as self-centered as boasting. Aim for an honest sense of your strengths, and radiate that regal Leo pride. Your natural confidence is a joy to be around. Think of the easy charisma that a Leo like Barack Obama emanates—it certainly gained him enough popularity to win the presidency!

After the 20th, life starts to lighten up a whole lot more. The Sun moves into Aries, ruler of your expansive ninth house. Travel, study and new horizons open up exciting paths for you. On March 26, the new moon, Mercury and Venus join the Sun here, making it one of the month’s most inspiring days.

Shake off the intensity of the past four weeks. If you’ve been sitting around moping or feeling anti-social, interacting with people will energize you again. Just avoid the drama queens and gossips. Misery loves company, and you may have picked up a few negative types at the water cooler, or fallen into conversations that left you drained and depressed. Surround yourself with fellow visionaries who see the bright side of life.
