Monthly Horoscope:

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

JUNE 2008

Time out, Cancer. You’ve been burning the candle at both ends, and you need a retreat. The first three weeks of June are your annual “sleepy time,” as the Sun moves through your twelfth house of healing, rest and endings. This is a time to turn inward and tie up loose ends, rather than to initiate new ventures. It’s also a great time to express yourself artistically—through music, dance, painting or acting. Do this now for pure creative fun. It will be so therapeutic!

Until June 20, Mercury, the planet of communication and the mind, will be retrograde (backward) in your twelfth house, too. The twelfth house is also known as “the house of your own undoing.” While it can be a healing space, this part of the zodiac is also associated with addiction, hidden enemies and the underworld. Mercury retrograde typically brings back people from our past. Given Mercury’s placement, you should think long and hard before mending fences now. Someone with whom you’ve had bad blood could resurface. This person could be charismatic and enchanting, possessing charms that are difficult to resist. However, once your guard is down s/he knows exactly how to push your buttons, too.

Perfect example: our Cancer friend Tiffany (not her real name) just received an email from a difficult old friend after ten years, asking to get back in touch. This estranged friend used to get drunk and start fights whenever they went out; in one particular  episode, she even punched Tiffany in the face! Tiffany decided it was best to end contact with this woman. Now, her gut is telling her to stay away, but she’s wondering, “Should I be polite and email her back?”

Cancer, if you still feel that closure is missing with this person, Mercury retrograde could be a good time to pursue that. However, proceed with extreme caution. Some people are “bottomless pits.” They don’t really want closure; they want attention. They want to re-engage you in never-ending conflict, feeding off the rise they get out of messing with your head. If your intuition tells you that drama is in store, don’t pursue a reunion.

You’ll need to keep your guard up a bit during this Mercury retrograde period, because you’ll be a sponge, absorbing everything around you into your subconscious. Watch what you say, too. Cancer, you tend to gossip and complain, but you have no idea who’s listening or how it could come back around. Keep it professional, and save your venting for therapy or a few trusted friends. Truthfully, it wouldn’t hurt to evolve your conversations and talk about something bigger than drama. Just because you know the latest dish, doesn’t mean you have to serve it to everyone you meet, Cancer. Challenge yourself to connect through common interests and pursuits instead. You have so much more to offer than tabloid headlines, anyway!

Mid-month, you’ll discover this anyway, as transformational Pluto orbits backward into your sixth house of health and service until November 27. Cancer, it’s time to get back in touch with the part of yourself that cares about the world at large—whether it’s through community action, environmental issues, or giving time to a cause that’s close to your heart. The sixth house also rules pets, so get involved with animal rights or anti-cruelty campaigns—or perhaps adopt a pet yourself.

The sixth house rules health and fitness, and your own well-being could be due for an upgrade. If you’re neglecting yourself or taking care of others at your own expense, take a big step back and reevaluate how set up your lifestyle. Are you portraying a minor character in your own movie, when you really should be the lead? Cancer, only you can take charge of this. While it may be easier to dismiss your needs, doing so now could take a toll on your health. Furthermore, it’s just irresponsible. When you suffer, nobody benefits. Remember, the people who love you want you around for the long haul! Make self-care a priority now and everyone will benefit.

Your old perfectionism could flare up, too, so try to keep that in check. It’s fine to have high standards, but during Pluto’s cycle, yours could become totally unrealistic. Know when good enough is enough and keep it moving!

Besides, you’ll want to be free at the end of the month, when a surprise chance to travel to an old favorite place could come out of the blue. This comes courtesy of Uranus’ retrograde turn in your ninth house of long-distance travel. You might also get the urge to return to school or revisit an old favorite topic. Why not, Cancer? If it grabbed your attention once, it could be worth checking out again.

After June 21, your love life picks up, too. The Sun and love-planet Venus will both be in Cancer. Heads will turn you way again. It’s a great time to shake off the frumpy feeling of the past few weeks and add some edge back to your look. Trade in the worn flip-flops for some sexy metallic sandals, toss on a sundress and do your hair. Wake yourself back up again. The world will respond!
