MONTHLY OVERVIEW:
You’re intensely focused as the calendar turns, pondering changes that have preoccupied you since the holidays. Settling into a new reality, even a happy one, takes time. Call it “cognitive dissonance,” the disorienting transition from one way of life into another. Give yourself the first three weeks of January to adjust. Your ruler Mercury is retrograde (backward) until the 15th, a good time to clear away intimacy blocks, take private time and make your 2010 budget.

You emerge from your private pod on the 19th, when the Sun enters Aquarius, your ninth house of inspiration and wisdom. Travel, study and engagement with the wider world call your attention. On January 17th, expansive Jupiter begins a 2010 tour of Pisces—your tenth house of career and achievement. With lucky Jupiter at the top of your chart, major goals get accomplished. In fact, this could be your most successful year in over a decade. Innovative Uranus is also in Pisces; your career expansion may involve technology, cutting-edge scientific developments or a humanitarian cause.

LOVE & ROMANCE:
You’re really growing up in matters of the heart, Gemini. Saturn, the planet of maturity, is in your fifth house or romance until October 2012. Saturn restricts energy, narrowing your focus to one person or commitment at a time. You may get serious about love, even try for pregnancy since the fifth house rules fertility. However, it may take trial and error, so be patient.

From January 13th-April 7th, Saturn goes retrograde, reminding you of unsavory habits that sabotage romance—like arguing for sport, tactless fault-finding, and scattering your energy so widely you cut into couple time. Consciously break these patterns when you find yourself falling back. The issues are there, whether “under rug swept” (to quote Gemini Alanis Morisette) or not. An ex could also reenter the picture to teach you an important lesson, or remind you exactly where there’s work needed.

Until mid-March, Saturn will square off with transformational Pluto, revamping your whole approach to intimacy. Pluto is in Capricorn, your eighth house of sex and deep connections. Since late 2008, many Geminis have learned the real meaning of “for better or for worse.” On January 15th, a solar eclipse in Capricorn shakes out your true feelings and most vulnerable emotions. Surrender a bit of your autonomous “me” for the greater love that’s possible in “we.”

MONEY & CAREER:
Clarity is the key to success, so if any fog has settled around your finances, address it early. Mercury is retrograde in Capricorn, your wealth sector, until January 15th. Go over your accounts and budget with a fine-toothed comb. If you have debt or loans, make a viable payment plan, even if that means negotiating with lenders. (Deep breaths, Gemini; it could get frustrating.) Get a jump start on income tax preparation by gathering papers. Real estate could also be on your agenda, whether buying, selling or moving. If possible, wait until Mercury goes direct (forward) to sign leases and contracts. Otherwise, read the fine print with extra care.

On January 15th, the Capricorn eclipse marks a turning point, and a chance to attract new wealth. You could receive a cash windfall or a great job offer. An unexpected bill may also come due. If that happens, be gracious with creditors instead of antagonistic. Create yourselves as teammates working for a common goal, rather than an “us versus them” scenario.

The real excitement comes on January 17th, when Jupiter begins a long tour of Pisces, your tenth house of career and ambition. This could be your most successful year in over a decade, and you may take on a leadership or managerial post. Worldly Jupiter travels with futuristic Uranus in 2010, weaving technology and cutting-edge concepts into your plans. Got a utopian vision for the world? You can make a difference for humanity through a profitable venture. The tenth house rules traditional business structures and government. Perhaps you can act as a consultant to a large corporation, helping them create ethical and sustainable business practices. Or, like Gemini Angelina Jolie, you might wield your influence with elected officials, policy or human rights.

HEALTH: MIND, BODY & SOUL:
This is a spiritual month, a time to meditate on your values and needs. Talking with a therapist or counselor can help with any emotional adjustments. With Mercury retrograde in your internal eighth house, a detox or cleanse could purge the holiday excess from your system. Don’t go overboard, though. If you cut out pleasure, it will lead to deprivation feelings, then the inevitable binge.

On the 19th, the Sun enters Aquarius, your adventurous ninth house. Don’t let cold temperatures keep you locked inside. Outdoor activity like skiing and snowboarding rejuvenates your soul. Metaphysical studies expand your mind and sphere of influence. You’ve got strong clairvoyant powers, but they only work when you quiet that endless mental chatter. The January 30th full moon is a good day to clear your head. Until this point, you may not have noticed a low-grade anxiety running in the background. Write or talk about everything and get it out of your system.
