Monthly Horoscope:

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

JANUARY 2009

Get ready for success! On January 5th, expansive Jupiter moves into your tenth house of career and prestige, staying for a year. Taurus, 2009 is poised to be one of your most auspicious work years in over a decade!  Jupiter brings luck, travel and new horizons. You could rocket up the corporate ladder, start your own company, or find a job that keeps you on the go.

If you’ve outgrown your job, you could leave for a better fit, so stay open to a year of discovery, too. Many Taureans already made that break in 2008, when Jupiter was in your adventurous ninth house all last year. Last year, Jupiter untethered you from a routine, teaching your stubborn sign how to go with the flow. Exciting as that was, you prefer consistency and planning. Fear not, Taurus. The zodiac’s tenth house is ruled by a fellow Earth sign, so this year, any changes you make will bring you the stability and structure you crave.

News could come around January 26, when a powerful solar eclipse falls in this part of your chart. The big job opening or prestigious opportunity you’ve been waiting for could be handed to you on the moon’s silver wings. Eclipses bring bold surprises that thrust us into a new reality. If you know where you’d like to go, write it down and spend a few minutes doing creative visualization. The clearer you are, the better the eclipse can deliver your dreams.

The tenth house also rules fathers, men and authority figures. Your relationship with your dad could go through an important evolution this year. If you’re still stuck in an old parent-child dynamic, you could get to know your father as a real person. If you still see him as an idealized figure on a pedestal (or a failure who let you down), Jupiter will help you evolve into a more broad-minded perspective.

This will influence your relationship to all men, and to any authority figure (male or female). At the end of the day, Taurus, nobody can boss the Bull around—but if you’ve stubbornly resisted sharing power with a partner, it may just link into this primary male relationship.

Under Jupiter’s influence, you may become a parent or boss yourself. Fortunately, you’re a natural manager, albeit a strict one at times. If you’ve been a bit too tough with the troops, integrate some playfulness into your leadership style. Take a work retreat somewhere fun, or host regular Happy Hours for your embattled soldiers so they can see that you’re not all work and no play. Productivity will increase with their happiness.

A note of caution: Mercury, planet of communication, is retrograde (backward) in your tenth house from January 11-February 1. Plans don’t come together as quickly or effectively during this cycle. Perhaps you need to do a little extra research? Mercury retrograde is good for making sure every “I” is dotted and every “T” is crossed. Use the time to give your plans a final once-over.

Watch for misunderstandings with co-workers and authority figures during Mercury retrograde, too. Don’t let a little annoyance flare into one of your famous diva throwdowns. Be extra patient with the men in your life, and manage any knee-jerk defensive reactions. Mercury retrograde also affects electronic data, so be sure to back up your work files and important documents—preferably before the 11th.

In love matters, there’s also some reflecting to do. Serious Saturn has been in your fifth house of romance since September 2007, bringing a more structured energy to your love life—along with a few obstacles. With Saturn here, you may have met someone special who lived far away, or was somehow not always accessible due to work or emotional issues, forcing you to rely on yourself.

Saturn is now retrograde until May 16th, so you may find there are a few lessons that you still have to learn in this area. Cautious Saturn rules time and lessons, and you may find yourself having second thoughts about your sweetie. Since retrogrades loops us back to the past, thoroughly check whether this actually has to do with some unhealed wounds from a former relationship. You might even consider working with a coach or therapist during this cycle to sort through that. It’s also possible that heavy work obligations could keep you from spending quality time, and you’ll need to work extra hard to ensure that the bedroom isn’t sacrificed to the boardroom.

If you’ve felt terminally single for a while, Saturn retrograde is a good time to polish up your game. If you have an online dating profile, ask friends for their honest feedback. Perhaps you’re not presenting yourself in the best light possible. You could even work with a matchmaker (heck, you never know) or just break out of your comfort zone a little more. Chances are, fear is stopping you. Taurus, use this Saturn retrograde cycle to really work through that. You have the chance to make a serious commitment this year, one that could even lead to marriage. Don’t let the past stand in your way!
