Monthly Horoscope:

Scorpio (October 23-November 22)

JANUARY 2009

Where do you call home, Scorpio? It’s time to create new ways of putting down roots. On January 5, expansive Jupiter enters your fourth house of home and family. It will stay for a year, turning your attention to more domestic matters. You’ve entered a foundation-building time, Scorpio. If you don’t feel firmly rooted in your own life, Jupiter will help you evolve into a new level of stability.

In 2009, many Scorpios will move to bigger quarters, invest in real estate, or start families. You could meet someone important who lives far away (Jupiter rules long-distance travel), perhaps even buy or sell a property in another region. Your creative, feminine powers will be at an all-time high, and your intuition could grow even sharper than it already is.

The fourth house also rules women, so this Jupiter cycle also highlights relationships with mothers, daughters, and female relatives or friends. If you’ve butted heads with an important woman in your life, you could mature into the role of understanding “sister-friends,” rather than adversaries. You might even get involved in a cause that supports women’s and children’s rights, or a career that involves hospitality.

On January 26th, an eclipse could kick this Jupiter energy into high gear. Eclipses are like power surges that force us off the fence. This eclipse comes with a new moon, suggesting a fresh chapter in your domestic life. What do you want your home and family life to look like? Visualize what you truly desire—you might even use collage or journaling to increase your manifestation powers. Two more eclipses will impact this part of your chart in 2009: one on February 9 and another on August 5. These are full moon lunar eclipses, so they can really help your visions come together.

One caveat: Mercury goes retrograde on January 11th, also in your fourth house. Mercury retrograde causes communication breakdowns, so choose your words carefully, Scorpio. No need to stir up family feuds, which will be waiting like landmines for you to step into. You may also need to make a few repairs around your house, or possibly even replace electronic equipment. Try to wait until the retrograde ends on February 1st. During the retrograde, you might review your home expenses and trim any unnecessary ones.

This same day, a full moon falls in your ninth house of the higher mind and travel. In the midst of any meltdowns, you could have a sudden epiphany. You might even pause and ask yourself: “Why am I even participating at this low level of drama?” Scorpio, you tend to obsess, so use this lunar power to get some much-needed distance and perspective.

Meantime, your love life gets a boost when Venus enters Pisces, your romantic fifth house, on January 4th. Around the 22nd, you could even hear a sudden declaration of love when you least expect it, thanks to Venus joining forces with unpredictable Uranus. Since Uranus is the planet of surprises, you might get a little shakeup (perhaps even a surprise pregnancy—or a pregnancy scare). Hang tight and trust that whatever happens, it’s for the best.

Friends may not agree with your romantic or personal choices during this cycle. Their opinion might hold more weight than you care to admit. Heavy-hitting Saturn is in your house of friendships and groups, forming a tense opposition to your fifth house. Translation: you may feel pulled in all directions, trying to please everyone and getting increasingly resentful or rebellious. Try to hear the good in what they’re saying, but be firm if you’re not interested in their unsolicited feedback. Remember, it’s your life.
