Gemini (May 21-June 20)
JANUARY 2009
You’re back! On January 5th, expansive Jupiter enters Aquarius, your ninth house of travel, study and inspiration, widening your horizons by miles. Pull your head out of the sand and look up—a bring future is beckoning to you once again! 2009 will be like a double-shot of good fortune, since the zodiac’s ninth house is ruled by Jupiter. This “Santa Claus” planet will be here for a year, making this one of the most adventurous, opportune times of your life.
It will literally be like night and day after the low-key year you just had. In 2008, Geminis went under the radar, and life took a rare incognito turn. Jupiter was in your intimate eighth house, connecting you to your deepest emotions. Yes, Gemini, you have emotions—even though you might wish otherwise! Those messy, complex things called feelings reared up in a big way, bringing out your tender, vulnerable side, or forcing you to look within.
In some cases, this led to euphoric connections and a deeper love than you’ve ever experienced. At other moments, it was emotionally exhausting! Your sign has a habit of skimming the surface, and you don’t enjoy being forced to deal with anything for a prolonged period against your will. The overall message was that “less is more.” Rather than foster a million superficial connections or overbook your schedule, you were drawn to focus on a few special people or a pet project.
Financially, you may have seen money come and go in larger sums than normal. Investments, debt, real estate, surgery and legal issues were also highlighted for your sign. The eighth house rules the reproductive system, and Geminis like Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie were among your signmates who were pregnant in 2008.
While the eighth house is internal, the ninth house is extroverted and worldly. It’s all about taking risks and blazing trails in 2009. If you’ve got an entrepreneurial idea brewing, this is the year to kick off your venture. On January 26th, a solar eclipse falls in your ninth house, making this an important day to really launch your dreams. Stay tuned for surprise news or offers, possibly even from afar.
If you have old friends in faraway places, reconnect after the 11th. Mercury, planet of communication and technology, goes retrograde (backward) from January 11-February 1. While this isn’t an opportune time to travel (Mercury can foil plans), you can still contact them through email, social networks or Skype. You might also brush up on an old course of study, review a class, or leaf through your most inspiring books. It’s important that you keep yourself inspired and positive. Make sure to back up your data, especially anything you’ve written, because Mercury retrograde can cause technology glitches.
Looking for a new job or to upgrade your lifestyle? The January 11 full moon lights up your second house of money and daily environment. If you’ve been working at an uninspired gig, or living below your standards, this moon could help you make an upward transition.
The one area that could be challenging this month is family. Saturn, planet of discipline and structure, goes retrograde in your domestic sector until May 16. Some past drama could re-emerge, and you’d be wise to deal with it maturely. If you’re a parent, it may be hard to keep your kids on a routine. You and a family member (possibly your mom or a female relative) may clash over an old sore spot. Your home may also feel a bit confining, or in some way may cause a few challenges. An erratic work schedule could keep you from really spending quality time with your clan.
Gemini, if you’re reliving the past, maybe there’s a lesson you didn’t learn the first time around. Saturn is the “tough love” planet who doles out challenges designed to make us grow. Rather than feel like the unfair victim of circumstances, ask yourself honestly if there are structures you could put in that will help. For example, if you’re stressed out by parenting but strapped for cash, perhaps you could hire a part-time sitter. If your mom is pushing your buttons, work on ways to pause before you react. If your home is claustrophobic, perhaps a savvy friend could help you renovate or decorate with space-saving tricks. Remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger—so don’t give up!
