Monthly Horoscope:

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

December 2008

December begins on a reflective note, and you’ve got the urge to turn inward, shutting out the holiday hubbub. Follow your instinct, Taurus. There’s a lot to synthesize from this year, which has been filled with more changes and activity than your sedentary sign is used to. You could use some downtime to focus on your most important people and priorities.

Even better, you’ve just ended a long, super-intense chapter of your life that started back in 1995. Pluto, ruler of core-level transformation has been in your eighth house—its native position—of intimacy and joint resources. (Take a look back at November’s horoscope for a full run-down of this chart position.) This was like getting a double-shot of Plutonian energy… kind of like building a house on top of a volcano. Even if it was dormant for long periods, when the explosions came, look out! Many Tauruses married and divorced, earned a fortune and lost it all, or experienced some extreme highs and lows. You may have also honed near-psychic abilities or razor-sharp intuition during this cycle.

Fortunately, Pluto permanently left this part of your chart on November 27th. It’s now in Capricorn, ruler of your optimistic, horizon-expanding ninth house, until 2024. The ninth house rules travel, study and entrepreneurship, and these could become themes of your next life phase. Publishing also falls under this part of the zodiac, so you might explore that field as well. Don’t take it all too lightly, Taurus. With Pluto’s power, you have the ability to change the world with an inspiring vision, to become an intellectual thought leader, or to be a bridge between nations and cultures. An environmental or metaphysical project is also favorable. Let your “inner hippie” lead the way. It’s all about having a larger purpose now!

You’ve already gotten a heady taste of this energy since last Christmas, when expansive Jupiter entered your ninth house, where it will stay for one more month. Taurus, in some way you spent 2008 unmoored you from your usual routine and lifestyle. Although you’re not a sign that loves change, this Jupiter cycle taught you the joys of freedom and flexibility. Many Tauruses we know became total free spirits and risk-takers, traveling the world, moving cross-country for love and work, or trading in their corporate jobs for a more relaxed schedule.

Jupiter actually rules the ninth house, so just as you got a double-shot of Pluto, you also received twice as much of lucky Jupiter’s positive, inspiring energy. Your faith in yourself could have soared as a result, helping you take a gamble that’s really paying off. Next year, when Jupiter goes into your career and leadership sector, it could bring even more returns. It will be easier to put all of this year’s new growth into a tangible structure after January 5th.

Your love life may already head in that direction after December 9, when romantic Venus enters Aquarius and your traditional tenth house. If you’re single, you could meet an established person. Some Tauruses might expect holiday wedding proposals, or a meet-the-parents scenario. Your own relationship with your father could also be impacting your relationship style, so if you have any peacemaking to do with your dad, this is an important time to do so.

On December 12, a Gemini full moon illuminates your second house of work and money. This could be a shining moment, and positive financial news could arrive around this moon. Gemini rules communication, so there may be some negotiating involved, especially a few days later. Don’t let pride and ego interfere with making sound decisions. Read the fine print and don’t sign on for anything without doing a little research.

The second house is the domain of sensual Taurus, so it’s also a fine time to focus on your daily surroundings and just indulge in pure pleasure. You may have an urge to nest, redecorate, or shop for new clothes. Just because you’re in touch with your inner bohemian, doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the finest silks, beautiful art, and soul-stirring music. It’s a great day to attend or host an elegant soiree as well.

Start attacking your big visions and goals after the 21st, when planets begin cruising into Capricorn and your expansive ninth house. The Capricorn new moon on the 27th is an ideal day to really map out your big plans in broad strokes. Don’t worry too much about the details yet; just let yourself go for it. You’ll have the energy and drive to see it through, and your can-do spirit is only getting stronger.
