Horoscope:
Libra (September 23-October 22)
December 2008
You’ve really expanded your foundation this year, Libra. Although you may have spent more time at home than your outgoing sign normally does, it was food for your soul. Expansive Jupiter has been in Capricorn, your fourth house of home and family, since last Christmas, making your domestic sector an important area of personal growth. Although your social butterfly wings will never be clipped, you’ve certainly found a new appreciation for cozying up in your own cocoon. You may even have outgrown your living quarters now that you’re spending more time at home.
Many Libras started families, renovated their homes, even changed addresses. Jupiter also brought its expansive touch to your relationship with your parents (or your own parenting style). The fourth house rules mothers, and you may have evolved in your relationship with your mom especially. Libras hate to be rushed, and you can be reluctant to cut the cord with your family (the guilt alone is a killer). This year, taking that risk really paid off. It wasn’t so bad, was it?
Libra, this was just a warm-up. On November 27th, transformational Pluto moved into your fourth house—its first permanent shift into a new sign since 1995. This cycle will last for the next 15 years, deeply altering your approach to family, home and your own roots. On the zodiac wheel, the fourth house is at the very bottom of the chart, and it symbolizes foundations. With intense, core-shifting Pluto here, a deep personal evolution has begun!
As the zodiac’s Scales, too much intensity can throw you off kilter, so there may be times that Pluto’s volcanic rumblings are a lot to take. Self-care and pampering will be helpful de-stressors (being a pleasure-loving sign, you won’t need much convincing there). Although you hate conflict, you may be called upon to play a powerful role in your family, one that could involve a couple of unpleasant encounters to rectify an unhealthy dynamic or situation.
Libra, don’t be afraid of your own power. You are ruled by love goddess Venus, and it would be impossible for you to lead without compassion. If anything, you’re too lenient at first, then you pull the reigns tight when you feel the inevitable slack. Many people in your life find this confusing, and admit it: you would, too.
Start all your relationships from this day forward with your full power intact, saying what you mean instead of what you think people want to hear. No games or manipulations, just be clear about your boundaries, and hold a space of honor for yourself. Treat your soul as a sanctuary and your life as a gift—one you got on loan and must return in better condition than it came.
Other than that, December’s first three weeks are incredibly social. With the Sun and energetic Mars in your fun-loving third house, you’ll have party invitations galore. Make sure you attend. A dynamic new connection, even a brilliant business idea, could strike while you’re chatting someone up at the punchbowl. Holiday cards (even e-cards) are an important way for you to network now, so get yours out early. This is one area where Libra shouldn’t procrastinate, especially if you have your own business or work in an an industry where it’s all about whom you know.
Romance is in the cards as well. On December 9th, Venus enters Aquarius, your fifth house of true love. Flirt like only your sign can, and if you’re in a couple, take advantage of the holiday excitement to bring the glow back to your relationship. A tendency for drama could flare, so channel that into dancing, gift shopping, even childhood activities like sledding or caroling.
There may even be an opportunity to start your holiday travel early. On
December 12, the full moon lights up your ninth house of long-distance
journeys. This full moon could also bring an epiphany, or exciting news
related to travel, study or a business venture.
If you hit the road, just make sure you’re going somewhere that you
can truly relax. A few days later, you’ll find yourself torn between
party-hopping and needing some serious downtime. It will be a little hard
to juggle, so put your inner people-pleaser down for a long winter’s
nap and do what’s best for you.
After the 21st, your homebody mood kicks in again, so spend quality family time over the holidays. On the 27th, the Capricorn new moon is a good time to reflect and do a little journaling. Libra, what do you need to truly feel grounded? You’ve grown so much, and your needs have expanded. A little free writing could help you identify the cornerstones you need for lasting stability.
