Horoscope:
Leo (July 23-August 22)
December 2008
The glamorous life may feel like a distant memory after a year like 2008, but that’s not a bad thing, Leo. Although many Leos were handed a slice of humble pie at some point this year, you found it wasn’t as hard to digest as you thought. With expansive Jupiter in your sixth house of service all year, you learned the joys of listening more than you talked, giving more than you received, and letting go of agendas or spotlight grabs.
When life ceased to be a little bit less about you, Leo, it was pretty exciting to see what else was out there. Many Leos tackled health and fitness, an area your indulgent sign has been known to neglect. Our own Leo mother hired a personal trainer at age 59 (our only complaint: she’s now in better shape than we are!). Another Leo friend quit smoking, gave up drinking and began eating healthily for the first time in his 35 years. He wanted to be a role model for his two kids—a noble decision that’s classic Leo.
Discipline has become de rigeur for you in other areas, especially finances, this year. With disciplined Saturn in your second house of money and work, you’re learning how to make more serious, responsible decisions in these areas. The “b-word” (budget) was not a part of many Leos’ vocabularies, and you still may trip over your tongue when you say it. There could have been a few bumps in the road at work this year, too—perhaps you even felt in over your head. Any challenges on the job were designed to help you grow. Saturn is the “personal trainer” planet who kicks our butts to get us in shape.
Saturn will be here through next October, so you’ve got time to grow even more. In fact, our new president-elect Barack Obama is a Leo—and he’ll surely be tackling the economy as a first priority. With Saturn on his side, his decisions will be especially weighty. He could make history in more ways than one if he chooses his moves well.
Overall, you’re moving into a new era of service, and Jupiter’s yearlong tour was just a preview. On November 27th, transformational Pluto moved into your sixth house, charging you with a deep sense of civic duty and the power to make change. When Obama repeated the mantra “Yes We Can” on the eve of his election, he may not have realized how much those words will resound. Leo, our environment and neighborhoods are in need of some deep healing at a core level. If anyone now has the power to go in and affect change, it’s you. Pluto will be here until 2024, so it will be a gradual process. (See our November horoscopes for much more on this profound shift.) The sixth house also rules pets, so you may work with animals or adopt a furry creature who will bring out a whole new dimension of your soul.
All that said, December is shaping up to be filled with fun, laughter, even romance. The Sun and Mars are in your passionate fifth house for the first three weeks, revving you up for a little rockin’ around the Christmas tree. A pregnancy is even possible for some Leos—or at least, quality time with children seeing the holiday season through their wondrous eyes. Leo, you’re an eternal five-year-old anyway, so quit playing Grinch. You love this time of year more than anyone. The December 12th full moon in your eleventh house of friendship brings you a bounty of festive energy. Get out and connect with people—it’s on a Friday!
There’s more romantic news this month—or perhaps we should say there’s less: less drama, less intensity, less headache! Pluto’s departure on November 27th was from your fifth house of love, where it’s been since 1995. This cycle could have brought you intense relationships, even some dramatic or tumultuous times. You’ve no doubt evolved from the trials you’ve weathered, but that doesn’t mean it was easy!
Love planet Venus brings you happy news all month—a holiday gift for your troubles. From December 1-4, Venus joins forces with lucky Jupiter in your sixth house. You could meet someone volunteering for a holiday charity, or even working out at the gym. On December 9th, Venus cruises into Aquarius, your seventh house of committed partnerships. You could be ready to make it official, or meet someone who’s wants something real. If you’re in a relationship, this holiday season will surely bring you closer together.
More planets begin moving into Capricorn on the 21st, so the fitness kick most people feel around January 2nd will begin early for you. If you want to set goals for your health and 2009 priorities, the Capricorn new moon on the 27th is an especially fortunate day to do that. You’ll have plenty of energy when motivator Mars moves here the next day. So don’t worry about a little holiday indulgence. You’ll have lots of energy to burn it off!
