Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
December 2008
More than any other sign, you’re at the threshold of a huge new life chapter, Capricorn. On November 27th, transformational Pluto moved into Capricorn, a powerful, life-altering shift that will last for 15 years. This is Pluto’s first permanent move into a new sign since 1995, and it’s going to revolutionize your entire sense of who you are. Capricorn, you can be quietly pessimistic—or at least, skeptical about whether things will all work out. You’re the sign that believes in saving for that metaphorical rainy day. Well, Capricorn, it’s time to prepare for some sunshine…or better yet, start controlling the weather yourself! With alchemical Pluto in your sign, that might not be too farfetched now.
2008 gave you a light preview of this new era. On January 26, Pluto entered Capricorn, but by mid-June its retrograde orbit sent it back into Sagittarius. Look back to earlier this year. Any seismic life shifts that happened between February and May? That intense energy could pick up again. Molecules are definitely moving! Imagine being woken from a deep, trancelike sleep by a huge brass band. That’s what the transition is like. Ready or not, it’s time to spring into action.
You already had a taste of this throughout 2008. Last Christmas, expansive Jupiter entered Capricorn, ushering in a fresh 12-year cycle. (Jupiter moves into a new sign once a year.) You may have made bold moves or grown by leaps and bounds. Many Capricorns we know relocated, changed jobs, secured venture capital for their businesses, and fell in love—even married. There was a wow factor to all of it, too. It was impossible not to attract attention! Two noteworthy examples: Capricorn Ellen DeGeneres’ paparazzi-filled wedding to Portia DeRossi (an Aquarius), and Capricorn First Lady-elect Michelle Obama, whose White House Black Market dress caused as big of a sensation as her incredible poise.
Jupiter in your sign gives you a shot of can-do confidence, a strong push off the dock. It’s been an independent year, and you might have surprised yourself at how much you were able to stretch as a person. Capricorn, you’re an Earth sign who can be a bit of a curmudgeon, at times inflexible or stubborn. This year, you learned how to roll with a few more punches. On January 5th, Jupiter will move into your second house of manifestation, making it easier to put down roots, follow a routine, and build upon all of 2008’s self-discovery. For now, soak up a final month of excitement before things get more settled.
You could use some extra rest while you’re at it, Capricorn, especially through the 21st. Until then, the Sun and energizer Mars are in Sagittarius, your sleepy twelfth house. The first three weeks of this month are important for psychological and spiritual house-cleaning. You may find yourself needing an extra hour or two of rest—and even then, not feeling totally refreshed. Your subconscious is working overtime to release any residue, and you might find yourself having vivid dreams.
If you’re truly restless, try exercise in the evening—cardio or something more physical. Mars rules kinetic energy and aggression, so if you can release any stress before bedtime, it will help a lot. (Mars will be here through the 28th.) At the December 12th full moon in your sixth house of health and fitness, you won’t be able to ignore your body any longer. Take care of yourself, Capricorn. You’re not a machine! The sixth house also rules pets, so you might even adopt a furry companion, or just enjoy a bit of unconditional love from the one you’ve already got. If you’re a dog owner, a long walk with your pup will help you work out whatever’s on your mind.
Speaking of love, December 1-4 is a golden period for single Caps! On these days, lucky Jupiter joins forces with romantic Venus in Capricorn. Smile (you sometimes need a reminder) and step out on the scene with a positive attitude. Keep an open mind, too. You tend to carry a long mental checklist, but consider that your rules and standards are simply an armor of self-protection—one that keeps people away! Believe it or not, you can be intimidating, just by carrying a gloomy cloud over your head, or wearing a serious expression.
So like we said, smile! Studies have shown that the physical act of smiling actually causes people to be happy—not the reverse. In other words, people don’t smile because they’re happy…they become happy AFTER they smile. When you move your muscles into this upward expression, it sends your brain a signal that life is good! And you know what, Capricorn? It really is. A positive attitude will be your best accessory in the game of love now.
If you’re coupled, you may want to take things to the next level, or make a bold gesture to express your love. Be generous with your mate, Capricorn. Sometimes it’s easier for you to show your love than talk about it, and that’s okay. The person who really knows you will be able to read between the lines.
The most important day of the month, however, is December 27th. A new moon falls in Capricorn, making this your personal New Year. We urge you to take some time and really focus on what you want to create over the next six months. It will be twice as powerful if you write it down. Pick up a pen and let your dreams flow. The planets have never been more on your side than now.
