Monthly Horoscope:

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

December 2008

The longest year of your life is coming to an end, Aquarius. You’ve got one more month to go, but at this point, you can handle it. Since last Christmas, expansive Jupiter has been in “rest position” as it toured Capricorn, ruler of your twelfth house. While others around you spread their wings, your year was more about tying up loose ends, letting go, and turning inward.

There were a lot of sacrifices, and at times, you may have felt like you were walking in quicksand, with opportunities vanishing into the ether. The twelfth house rules illusions and trickster-style sleight of hand. At times, you couldn’t tell what was real and what was a product of your imagination. Jupiter’s big lesson? Learning how to “go with the flow.” 2008 was a dreamy year, one that made you realize you’re not as easygoing as you though. However, the more you learned to let go and surrender, the more you grew.

Jupiter in the twelfth house can be incredibly romantic. In fact, it’s a year that brings an abundance of soulmates, pregnancies and marriage proposals—all of which could have been highlights of your 2008. Aquarians like Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Aniston found love under Jupiter’s spell. Jupiter in the twelfth may also have brought hidden enemies or scandals out of the woodwork, forcing you to deal with an important rival. A perfect example is Aquarius Sarah Palin, who encountered Tina Fey impersonations, her daughter’s teen pregnancy and campaign insiders leaking rumors about her $150,000 wardrobe. While it wasn’t a great year to run for office, she brought twelfth-house glamour to the G.O.P., love her or hate her.

If you got in touch with a deeper, more soulful side of your nature, there’s more of that in store. On November 27th, intense Pluto entered your twelfth house, where it will stay for the next 15 years. Pluto transforms everything it touches at a core level. Aquarius, you’re famous for detaching from your emotions, but it won’t be as easy to shut that part of yourself off. A deep compassion and an urge to make a difference will sweep over you. Don’t fight it. If you’ve learned anything this year, it’s that love is the magic ingredient—even the foundation—for making anything work.

The sacrifices you made in 2008 could have reorganized your priorities. What mark do you want to leave behind on the planet? You may find yourself shifting your life in this direction even more. The twelfth house rules old age, so older relatives and people could play an important role. You may find doing volunteer work, like visiting people in the hospital or retirement homes. Aquarius, you could also have discovered that there’s a healer within you. You may have tapped into psychic abilities this year, or deepened your interest in the metaphysical.

Pluto could even bring you a new line of work, especially next month, when Jupiter enters Aquarius on January 5th. (Your luckiest year in over a decade begins then, so tie up any loose ends now!) The twelfth house rules glamour, and a career in film, theater, or fashion could be ahead for some Aquarians. If you’re laughing at the prospect, pause. Even if you work in sales or finance, you might even take an acting class to better your interpersonal skills. Presenting a softer energy or more “old-fashioned” look will bode well. You’re the zodiac’s most modern sign, ruler of the future. Now, you could find yourself drawing influence from history.

Beyond all these weighty matters, December shapes up to be a fun, social month. With the Sun and energetic Mars in your Aquarius-ruled eleventh house, you should have party invitations galore. You’ll definitely want to be among people for the first three weeks. Over the holidays, you may feel more restful, so celebrate early.

Travel is possible near December 12, when a full moon lights up your ninth house of long-distance journeys and the higher mind. It’s an incredibly lucky full moon for you, a day that could be the cherry on top of your year. The celestial Santa Claus is coming to town, so keep your mindset open and positive. It’s a great day to be generous with your loved ones, too, and to inspire them with your attitude.

Love and romance get a huge boost of luck in December, too. On the 9th, romantic Venus enters Aquarius, making you quite the love magnet. The week before that, Jupiter and Venus link up in your twelfth house, putting you in soulmate mode. (If there’s any lingering baggage or someone you need to let go of, do so before the 9th.)

On the 27th, a Capricorn new moon falls in your twelfth house. Rather than write New Years’ resolutions, we recommend writing New Years’ “absolutions.” In other words, write down anything you want to forgive, release and set free—whatever you want to leave behind in 2009. You might even do a small ritual to karmically let go. Since Capricorn is an earth sign, you could even bury the list in the ground. Allow what no longer serves you to properly “die.” There’s so much excitement ahead, so clear the decks and get ready!
