Rugged individualism, be damned. Wise, maturing Saturn is now touring Libra, the sign that rules partnerships. Two is officially the world’s magic number, as we are pushed to cooperate, collaborate and activate like Wonder Twins Zan and Jana. This “Cosmic Love Tour” lasts from October 30, 2009 until October 6, 2012. The world has officially three years to master the art of playing nice before Saturn in Scorpio swoops in to survey the landscape.
Saturn spent the prior two years in practical Earth-sign Virgo, bringing world attention to green causes like sustainability and environmental law. The recession was also due in part to Saturn in Virgo restricting everyone’s bottom line. Saturn’s motto could be “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” Fortunately, Saturn is “exalted” in Libra, meaning it’s happiest visiting this sign. While the next three years will bring fresh round of life lessons, Saturn will be more like a firm-yet-loving parent than a cruel taskmaster.
Success always comes through structure when Saturn is involved. Relationships (especially romantic ones) that are built on shaky foundations are already beginning to crumble like the buildings of ancient Rome. (Paging Tiger Woods…)
In some cases, this provides an opportunity for rebuilding; in others, it’s a blessed clearing that paves the way for a far healthier, happier union. Trust us—even if you’re still sobbing into those pints of Cherry Garcia—there IS someone better for you than your pre-Saturn-in-Libra ex.
Couples counselors will be in high demand over the next few years, and could become as popular a fixture in our weekly schedules as yoga classes. If you thought you were wasting your time reading all those self-help books from the “Relationships” section, guess again. Your emotional intelligence will exalt you to oracle status among your friends. Preach on!
On a global scale, Saturn in Libra sounds the call for world peace with urgent determination. It’s time to lay down those weapons and call a global truce. Laws and structures that are blatantly biased may crumble like the financial industry. We may see new policies around gender equity and greater understanding between the sexes.
This Saturn phase wraps in the momentous year of 2012. While Hollywood has skillfully spun this date into an Armageddon disaster flick (what WERE you thinking, John Cusack?), true legend tells a rather different tale. December 21, 2012, marks the end of a 26,000-year cycle in the Mayan calendar. More “the end of the world as we know it” than the actual demise of humanity. Some interpretations believe that post-2012, we will reach an enlightened state of “oneness consciousness” where the boundaries of race, class, nationality, etc. will dissolve. Humanity will reach a tipping point in its spiritual and energetic development. Can weighty Saturn in Libra shift our planet away from hate and toward love? Let’s hope so. As the old no-nukes protestors used to say, “Arms are for hugging.”
