2012: Year of the Dragon
Happy Year of the Dragon! January 23rd marks the Chinese New Year, and what better creature to represent 2012 than the symbol of magic, alchemy and transformation? If 2012 indeed marks the beginning of a new era, this is more grist for the mystical mill. For the first time since 2000, we have a Dragon year, which is believed to be a time of alchemy, transformation and deep-seated change.
The Dragon is the only non-animal in the Chinese zodiac, which imbues it with mythical powers. No surprise that the millennium and 2012 have both been marked by some much legend and importance! In the coming 12 months, the Dragon will help us all find our own magic—as well as to reckon with the “beast” or shadow side within us all.
Since we had plenty enough explosive firepower in 2011, it's happy news that this is a Water Dragon year, cooling the beast's combustible intensity and bringing some emotional balance to the mix. The question: how can we use our passion productively? Intense energy not properly channeled can turn into rage or destructiveness. But if we find power and grace with that “dragon within,” we can direct it into an incredible life transformation. The choice is ours, and the key ingredient is consciousness. The Dragon invites us: don’t run from your fears—run TOWARD them. By this time next year, the Dragon can liberate you from whatever has controlled you until now.
