Somehow, we’re already into the second month of 2012. That happened fast, didn’t it? The seekers and spiritualists are saying that one “sign” of 2012 is the experience of time speeding up. The distance between people and places also feels shortened, partly due to technology. We can expect to feel more of this shift as the year progresses (however, we believe that 2011 was the real transitional year–it was a doozie for everyone we know).

February 3rd brings one of the biggest events to herald 2012. Neptune, the spiritual and karmic healer, moves into its home sign of Pisces for the next 14 years. Neptune was here briefly from April-August 2011, giving us a teensy sneak preview. But the last time it was here was during the mid-1800s, during the time when slavery was abolished. Neptune has been in Aquarius since 1998, a time when people have gotten closer and more connected, but in other ways, more detached. That’s because Neptune dissolves the boundaries between people, but Aquarius rules radical individuality–a bit of a paradox! This has given rise to the “accessible” reality show stars and YouTube sensations who seem both within arm’s reach (cue the voyeuristic, faux-intimate celeb Twitter streams) and in a class of their own. It’s been a strange contradiction to navigate, one that’s left a lot of people feeling spiritually fragmented.

Neptune’s move into Pisces should help resolve this disconnect. We’ve already heard of companies shutting down email servers after 7:00 p.m., or trying “Switch-Off Sundays” where they pry themselves away from the computer. Neptune in Pisces will connect us more to art, spirituality and creativity…hopefully shuffling technology into its rightful place as a means of communication, rather than a way to avoid intimacy. Look at the incredible developments in technology that have been happening since 1998 while Neptune was in Aquarius. Over the past thirteen years, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices, and lightning-fast Internet connections have sped up time and allowed us to virtually communicate with people around the globe. What’s next: communicating with other life forms, glimpsing the future, having visceral out-of-body experiences through virtual reality simulation? It’s fascinating, and even a little freaky, to think of what might be. Hypnosis, meditation, and shamanistic journeying already give us access to other dimensions, and these practices may become more popular and effective ways of healing ourselves in the days ahead.
 
Denial ain’t just a river, anymore—it’s an increasingly polluted system of oceans that we must heal. Neptune is the god of the seas, and we’ve been doing damage to ours for years. This toxic trend has got to stop, for obvious reasons as well as mystical ones. The distribution of fresh, clean H2O to places that don’t have easy access to wells is becoming a prominent human rights topic. Celebrities such as Matt Damon have created charities like water.org, an important site to check out and learn how to make a difference.
 
The arts will be blessed by this Neptune shift, and we may see the emergence of some true masters. Legendary Pisces Michelangelo and Alexander McQueen exemplify the imaginative energy of both planet and sign. Dancers, musicians, mystics, energy healers, shamans, and other magical talents will hear a calling to be more active in architecting the post-2012 world. What is your divine gift?
