The stirrings of Saturn’s move into Libra are already upon us. And what better public proof of astrological change than headline-making celebs? Saturn is the planet of maturity and challenges, and when it enters your sign, you’re forced to face the harsh reality of adulthood. Actions can no longer be taken without consequence, and for Libras, that means tumbling from a fluffy cloud of conflict avoidance and denial. In the positive sense, people become aware of their power and influence. Those who resist may deal with harsher lessons until they hit rock bottom and surrender to their highest selves (Jon Mayer, you listening?).
For folks of every sign, Saturn’s move into Libra is good news. Saturn is “exalted” in the sign of justice, peace and harmony, bringing its best qualities of structure and long-term plans to Libran idealism. We’ll all become aware—like it or not—that for every action, there’s a consequence or an impact on another person, the planet, and so on. While Saturn visits Libra (until October 2012), we must all accept our interconnectedness with every other living thing on Earth.
Here are a few Libras who’ve been dotting the map with Saturnine activity:

Wyclef Jean
The Fugees frontman and political activist, born October 17th, announced he’ll run for President of his homeland, Haiti. Wyclef has been a vocal and hands-on supporter of his native country for years. Saturn’s presence in his justice-loving sign clearly motivated him to seek political office. However, he could also underestimate the resistance he’ll face, the corruption entrenched in Haiti’s current system, and the magnitude of this responsibility. There will be no “killing them softly with his song.” Will he stick around for the whole race? It will certainly test his character. Here’s hoping he follows in the footsteps of Libras like Ghandi and his philosophy of non-violent resistance. Or, to quote Libra John Lennon, “You say want a revolution?” We shall see.

Briston Palin
On July 14, the Libra daughter of Alaskan “maverick” Sarah Palin announced her re-engagement to Taurus Levi Johnston…on the cover of US Weekly, no less. Dubious choice. A week later, Saturn entered Bristol’s sign, shaking her back into a reality. Amid rumors that Johnston got another teenage girl pregnant, the headlines are now amok with news that the wedding is called off. (That gale wind that just swept through Alaska was just Sarah P exhaling.) Saturn, a planet that’s often “cruel to be kind,” is awakening Bristol to the harsh truth about marriage and motherhood. Like that tough teacher who pushed you to aim higher than your limits, Saturn’s lessons will be treasured by her in hindsight. (Trust us, girlfriend.)

Gwyneth Paltrow
The accomplished actress and Goop.com publisher is testing a new career path—as a cookbook author. Saturn is the ruler of fathers and family history. Paltrow’s cookbook, aptly named My Father’s Daughter, is dedicated to her late dad Bruce Paltrow, and her fond memories of cooking with him. It will be published next year and was already featured in a lengthy August Vogue cover story. The writer (Vogue‘s food columnist) managed to make her sound congenial and relatively un-snobbish, for once. Seems Saturn’s done a nice, down-to-earth makeover of her public persona. Roll with it, Gwyn.

Simon Cowell
Saturn briefly debuted in Libra from October 2009-April 2010. During this cycle, the loathed-but-loved Brit Simon Cowell announced it was his last season judging American Idol. Sad, but we figured the show could go on with Randy, Kara and Ellen. Guess again. Within days of Saturn’s move into Libra, Ellen resigned and Kara was fired. (Rumored replacements are Steven Tyler and J. Lo. Huh?) Clearly, it’s time for Cowell and his scowl to create a new empire. But overnight success is NOT Saturn’s style. Will the U.S. version of X Factor stack up to Idol when it debuts fall 2011? Or will it be a career misstep? The jury is out, but let’s hope viewers don’t judge Simon by his own harsh standards.
Which other Libra celebs could make surprising Saturnine headlines in the days to come? We’re waiting for it. A Kim Kardashian pregnancy or celibacy announcement? An Eminem outburst at the VMAs? Nick Cannon fathering a kid (with or without Mariah)? Zac Efron going solo or single? We’ll stay tuned and report.
